NSi Services

NSi identify intellectual property arising from research activities and assess and evaluate “patentability”, other forms of IP protection and market potential as part of the commercialisation process.

We have the skills and experience to exploit intellectual property of commercial value and to translate research and know-how into commercial opportunities which provide financial returns for researchers, including students, UNSW and the community.

We connect you to industry on matters of commercialisation and negotiate on matters of licensing, sale, spin-off or partnering on behalf of UNSW where there is intellectual property.

NSi can also provide advice and assistance on gaining commercialisation funds from government. AusIndustry COMET grants are available to support early stage spin off companies. Commercial Ready funds support a wide range of project activities for research and development (R&D), proof of concept, and other early-stage commercialisation activities carried out by spin off companies. www.ausindustry.gov.au

CASESTUDY: BT Imaging Pty Ltd (BTi) was formed in October 2007 to commercialise photoluminescence imaging systems for the Photovoltaic manufacturing industry. BTi’s technology – a result of UNSW research – offers a superior method for the inspection of silicon wafers and offers manufacturers of the wafers significant throughput, performance and cost advantages. Uniseed and the Allen and Buckeridge Emerging Technology Fund (ETF) invested in BTI’s seed round. BT Imaging web site.
